Travel and Presenter Awards

1. Best Student Oral Presentation Award (and up to two runners up)

Terms and Criteria: Selection of winners will be based on the quality of the presentation during the conference as determined by the judging panel (described below).

Eligibility: Enrolled in an institution of higher learning and pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree. The candidate must be a member of NASCE.

Benefit: Certificate and cash reward (or travel award) for the awardees, and certificates for the runners up.

Application/nomination procedures: The candidate must indicate their intention to be considered for the award at the time of abstract submission. If the candidate is not a current NASCE member, they can become a member at the time of abstract submission.

2. Best Student Poster Presentation Award (and up to two runners up)

Terms and Criteria: Selection of winners will be based on the quality of the poster presentation (poster and presentation quality during the poster session) during the conference as determined by the judging panel (described below).

Eligibility: Enrolled in an institution of higher learning and pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree. The candidate must be a member of NASCE.

Benefit: Certificate and/or cash reward for the awardees, and certificates for the runners up.

Application/nomination procedures: The candidate must indicate their intention to be considered for the award at the time of abstract submission. If the candidate is not a current NASCE member, they can become a member at the time of abstract submission.

3. Best Postdoctoral Oral Presentation Award (and up to two runners up)

Terms and Criteria: Selection of winners will be based on the quality of the presentation during the conference as determined by the judging panel (described below).

Eligibility: Postdoctoral fellows. Must have a PhD or equivalent, or MD or DVM and be within five years of the degree. The candidate must be a member of NASCE.

Benefit: Certificate and cash reward (or travel award) for the awardees, and certificates for the runners up.

Application/nomination procedures: The candidate must indicate their intention to be considered for the award at the time of abstract submission. If the candidate is not a current NASCE member, they can become a member at the time of abstract.

4. Trainee Travel Awards

Terms and Criteria: Selection of winners will be based on the quality of an extended abstract that is submitted (maximum of one page) on the posted abstract submission deadline (see further details below).

Eligibility: Only PhD students or junior postdoctoral fellows (first post-doc) can apply. The candidate must be a member of NASCE.
Benefit: Certificate and cash reward (or travel award) for the awardees.

Application/nomination procedures: The candidate must indicate their intention to be considered for a travel award at the time of abstract submission. Candidates must submit an extended abstract (maximum of one page) on the research to be presented and also include a brief explanation to justify the need for travel award. If the candidate is not a current NASCE member, they can become a member at the time of abstract.

Evaluation by the Awards Committee

The Awards Committee will evaluate the submitted nominations, and oversee the administration of the trainee awards. The committee will consist of representatives from Canada (2), Mexico (2), and the US (2). These six members will recruit additional postdoctoral/faculty judges for trainee award evaluations of the same geographical representation for the judging panel.

In the event that a member of the Awards Committee is the supervisor of a trainee, the potential conflict of interest shall be declared. The member will not participate in the evaluation of his or her own trainee submissions.
